Under $1,500
This is the entry tier, mostly rear-hub motors and simpler batteries. Reid's Let's Roll Step-Through, at $1,199, is the cheapest road-legal commuter in the directory, with a 374Wh battery and a 35 to 60km range. DYU's C6 is cheaper again at $899, but it is flagged non-compliant in the eBikeFinder directory (its power and throttle put it outside the 250W pedelec rules), so it is off-road and closed-course only, not a legal commuting option in Australia. NCM's T3 sits at $1,999 with a much larger 576Wh battery and a 60 to 120km range band, a solid step up for an extra $800 over the Reid.
$1,500 to $2,500
Leitner's Berlin, Venice and Milan Cruisers are all $1,425 with a 360Wh battery and a 20 to 50km range. VelectriX's Urban Pulse, at $2,399, is one of the cheaper mid-drive options in the directory, with a 460Wh battery and 45 to 60km of range, useful if hills are part of the commute.
$2,500 to $3,000
Aventon's Level 3 ($2,599) and Eunorau's META275 2.0 ($2,499) both carry large batteries (733Wh and 720Wh respectively) with range bands over 100km on their maximum figure. Merida's eSpresso CC 300 EQ SE ($2,664) and eSpresso City 300 EQ SE ($2,792) are both mid-drive bikes, useful where terrain is a factor. Trek's Verve+ 1 LT Lowstep Gen 2 and FX+ 2 LT are both exactly $2,999, at the top of this bracket.
