Drop-bar e-bikes are a different animal from commuters: light frames, small batteries and subtle motors that add a boost rather than do the work. They suit fitness riders, long group rides and fast mixed-surface commutes. Several of the gravel bikes below double as quick commuters, and we flag those on the commuter page too.

Common questions
What is an electric road bike?
A drop-bar road bike with a light, low-power motor (often 40 to 60Nm) and a small battery, built to feel like a normal road bike with help on hills. In Australia the motor must still cut out at 25 km/h, so above that speed you are riding on your own legs.
Is an e-gravel bike good for commuting?
Often, yes. Gravel e-bikes take wider tyres, mudguards and racks, so the cheaper ones make fast, comfortable commuters. Carbon race models are less practical for daily use. Gravel bikes suited to commuting also appear on our commuter page.
