Orbea Optima e-bikes recalled: the frame can break while you ride

A national recall covers Orbea Optima Asphalt and Optima Comfort step-through e-bikes sold from late 2019 to the end of 2020. A frame welding fault brings a risk of death or serious injury, and the fix is a free replacement.

Orbea Optima e-bikes recalled: the frame can break while you ride

If there is an Orbea Optima step-through in your garage, stop riding it and go look at the frame number. A recall published on the ACCC Product Safety register on 19 August 2026 covers the Optima Asphalt and Optima Comfort e-bikes over a fault in the frame welding that may cause the frame to break while the bike is in use.

The regulator does not soften the consequence: a frame that lets go mid-ride carries a risk of death, serious injury or property damage, to the rider and to other road users. This is not a battery story or a software story, it is the structure of the bike itself.

Which bikes are affected

What owners should do

Stop using the bike and check the VIN on the frame. If it contains SNKIN19A, contact your nearest Orbea dealer to arrange a free replacement. Orbea's Australian recall contact is 0400 261 990 or scampo@orbea.com, and the full recall notice on the ACCC register includes the list of affected warranty numbers and selling dealers.

The bikes were on sale up to six years ago, which is exactly why this one matters. A 2019 or 2020 Optima has long since left the showroom conversation and is just someone's daily commuter now. Recalls on older stock rely on owners actually hearing about them.

A five minute VIN check is free. A frame failure at speed is not. If you know someone riding an older Optima step-through, send them this one.
